About - Christian Aslund

I was born in Stockholm, Sweden 1974. My professional career started out with studying film and after that working with documentaries and features for a couple of years. I always had a passion for stills photography and after getting a job on a Norwegian newspaper I switched career to an expression form more suitably for me. The last 10 years I have been freelancing with a wide range of assignments, from photojournalism, travel and outdoor photography to more commercial advertising assignments. I also do a lot of work for NGOs with different projects around the world, which allows me to keep travelling and exploring new places and cultures. The passion for photography started out in the mountains of Austria, where I used to live for a couple of years doing skiing and mountaineering. I started taking images of my friends skiing and snowboarding. I managed to sell some of those images to travel companies, newspapers and magazines around the world and realized that I could combine my interests of skiing and photography and live from it. I’m still doing a couple of trips a year where we go and explore new locations to ski. Today I have a studio in Stockholm where I do advertise and fashion shoots, in between the different assignments abroad. I found it helpful to try out as many things possible and combine different styles and techniques and bring it into my travel photography. My favourite destination is probably Svalbard, a remote island in the very north of Europe just below the North Pole. It’s the most northerly populated place on earth where the harsh nature is majestic and still rich of wildlife. It’s like travelling back in time.
